The main component of quartz glass is SiO2. It is made from natural crystalline quartz (crystal or pure silica), or synthetic silane through high temperature melting. So it has many good features.
- Quartz glass is a kind of acid material. Besides hydrofluoric acid and hot phosphoric acid, it is inert to any other acid, and it is the best acid resistant material. The transparent quartz glass has a better chemical stability than the opaque quartz glass, which is because it has a smaller area to reduce corrosion.
- Quartz glass has high dielectric strength and extremely low conductivity. Even at high temperature, high pressure and high frequency, quartz glass can maintain high dielectric strength and resistance. Therefore, quartz glass is excellent high-temperature dielectric insulating material.
- The optical properties of quartz glass has its originality, it can through the far ultraviolet spectrum, but also the best of all ultraviolet material, and through the visible and near infrared spectroscopy.
- The thermal expansion coefficient of quartz glass is very small, and the melting point of quartz glass is at 1250℃. It is the preferred material for glassware of high temperature resistance in the laboratory.
Quartz glass is very versatile. Quartz glass has a very low coefficient of thermal expansion, high temperature resistance, excellent chemical stability, excellent electrical insulation, low and stable ultrasonic delay properties, the best performance of UV transmission spectrum properties and visible & near-infrared transmittance. And it also has higher mechanical properties than ordinary glass.
